Visit CoinLedger →Why 2026 is different: Form 1099-DA
Brokers began reporting digital asset sales to the IRS on the new Form 1099-DA. That means the IRS will have its own copy of your sales — your return needs to match. The practical consequences:
- Reconcile early. Import your full history into software and compare against any 1099-DA you receive; cost basis gaps are the #1 mismatch.
- Don't assume the broker's basis is right. Transfers between platforms often arrive without basis — your own records fill the gap.
- Keep the audit trail. Every platform above generates an audit trail tying each 8949 line back to source transactions.
How we compare
- We research pricing, free tiers, and integrations from public pages and independent roundups — we don't take vendor claims at face value.
- We don't accept payment for placement. If that ever changes, this page will say so explicitly.
- We don't publish user counts, review scores, or testimonials we can't verify.
- Pricing changes frequently; the vendor's own pricing page is the final authority.
